Hi Everyone
We have a fabulous new badge show that started last weekend and runs until 14 October.
On September 22nd some of the artists will be present at The Hive during opening hours for a drop in badge making workshop.
With the election impending it is appropriate that Stephanie Jones, Waratah Lahy, Ivo Lovric, Barbara McConchie, Al Munro, Bernie Slater and Davis Wills, who all studied at the Australian National University School of Art, have re-united for Push Your Buttons. Each of the artists in Push Your Buttons received a brief to design and produce a quantity of badges in response to the broad theme” politics and pop”.
The artists all demonstrate an excellence in their chosen artistic field and were selected to participate due to their proven track record in political arts practice and / or a critical engagement with popular culture.
Push your buttons plays upon the contemporary currency of the humble badge and its potential for communication. Badge-wearers seek attention and engagement, outwardly displaying their personal taste political views or willingness to participate in a dialogue. The exhibiting artists support the words of refugee activist Ardeshir Gholipour: “badges visibly exhibit your views on an issue close to your heart”.
Don’t miss the show and feel free to drop in for the workshop too.
Some New things...
Alex from Dosvidas has just dropped in a wonderful bench table that he has made from recycled jarrah that he came across in a dumpster in Ainslie…what a find, he has turned it into a solid beautiful piece of furniture with clean contemporary lines.
I have new laminate scroll cut trays that I have imported from France. They feature pheasant, deer, squirrel and owl. Will look great on a wall.
Cheers
Jenny
